This year was not quite as exciting and new as freshman year, but I still found a way to continue to grow as person and a learner.
Some aspects may seem trivial, but I honestly think that they contributed to the overall feel of my past year.
As far as my major is concerned, I completed my first clinical rotation. I was on the orthopedic trauma floor at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. It was a chance to get a real glimpse of what I could actually be doing once I graduate and practice what I’m preparing four years for. There were days when I had a powerful indifference towards it, and days when it was really rewarding.
I tried Greek Life at UC briefly, then found out that it wasn’t for me. I watched over 100 films for the first time during the course of the year. I traveled to countries in Europe. I went to music festivals and concerts that will remain in my memory for the rest of my life. I got a new apartment that shares my love of stock photos. My Spotify account got erased, my library wiped clean; this forced me to start all over and actively seek out new music. I swam in the UC recreation center’s pool for the first time. I volunteered at the St. Francis soup kitchen. I traveled to Orlando during fall break; this taught me, yet again, that life is expensive but can be really fun. I joined the UC club softball team after my freshman-year roommate urged me to help fill the empty spot on the roster.
I did many things this year that I would have never predicted I would have. I can only hope that the next year is as full as this one. Whether I prefer to look at where I am as halfway through college, or still having half left, I think that I have a perspective on how to make the most of the next two years here at UC.
